Flippa Scamming: My Story At The Hands Of A Flippa Scam Syndicate

0
If you’re in the business of buying/selling domains and websites, you’ve probably at some point come across Flippa. There’s mixed reports on it, but used in the correct way, it can be an effective way of building an online income, or for online Entreprenerurs to raise capital for a new venture. This article comes from a group of victims who have reached out to each other to share their story of 2 scammers (Connor Paddon and Gerald Barja) who have taken around $50,000 from us from the sales of 3 SEO companies. Read more about our story here – My Flippa scam story

I started browsing Flippa back in 2013 and like everyone else, I could see the obvious scams. However, the scam I fell victim to was more elaborate and involved the use of a private blog network.

I’ll run through all the obvious things you should watch for before you should even look at Flippa.

1) Mini-site Product Listing

A common scam is sellers who buy a pre-existing website template and product from a site like Jvzoo or Master Resell Rights, set up the site and then claim they have a ready-made “product” – often these scams will fetch the seller around $100.

2) Fake Traffic

Be vigilant and check out the traffic closely – if it appears to be low quality, third world country traffic, chances are it’s been bought. It can give the appearance that it has a steady stream of traffic which generates the revenue.

So ask, where does the traffic come from – is it organic, Facebook ads, or what?

3) Income Claims

Find out exactly why the site is making money and how much. Don’t be pulled in by Paypal account screenshots, as these could potentially be photoshopped. Where are the buyers coming from? – is it from organic traffic, Facebook ads, or some other source?

4) Multiple Re-listings

An obvious one, but if its been listed multiple times, without selling, chances are there is something putting off potential buyers. Especially if the sellers accounts in the previous listings are now banned.

5) Ranked by PBN? (This was how we were scammed)

This is a last point, which I have NEVER seen mentioned anywhere. It’s partly how I was scammed and I want to impart this last point of wisdom so you are more educated than the majority of Flippa buyers.

So here’s where our scam happened..

Between the 3 victims, we bought these 3 sites from the same Flippa scam ring.

(1)https://flippa.com/2955544-torontoranking-com (TorontoRanking.com)

(2)https://flippa.com/3007603-philiboost-com (PhiliBoost.com)

(3) https://flippa.com/3047558-losangelesrank-com (losangelesrank.com)

At the time of listing, these 3 sites appeared to be making an income, were in fact ranking for various keywords for their cities. I.e. according to the listing Torontoranking.com ranked in the top spot for “toronto seo prices”, number 2 for “toronto seo” and ranked in the top 5 for many others. This was in fact true and accounted for the traffic and customers that were driven to the site.

However, after handing over payment, rankings dropped dramatically – much faster than normal and all 3 victims were left with a useless website, which didn’t rank anywhere near the top for any keywords and had almost zero traffic. How did it happen?

Well, according to the scammers – “it’s a Google update and we can’t control that”. End of story right? Not necessarily..

Had that been the case, how would they have then quickly ranked a 3 other SEO companies, in the same cities and sold these straight after?

The seller “cpaddoncpaddon” confirms that he owns 2 of these new companies. From our own investigations we found his accomplice also runs Torontoboost.

(1) Laranking.com
Flippa scam
Now Redirects to Riserev.com where the enquiries are answered by his accomplice Gerald )

This whois report of VancouverJump links this Gmail to Gerald

flippa scam
(2) http://SeoPhili.com
flippa scam
According to this Whois query, operated by Connor

(3) Torontoboost.com
flippa scam
And according to its Whois is operated by Gerald

All of which then ranked for various search terms. In essence, Connor and Gerald de-ranked the 3 previous sites and ranked these 3 new companies, driving customers away from our companies to his.

So how did they do this?

We came to the conclusion that they used a powerful PBN (Private Blog Network) to quickly de-rank and rank the SEO companies. The pointing the links in the network at a website, they could quickly rank for their search terms. However, as soon as they remove the links and point them at a new website, it will de-rank the first one, and rank the second. That’s how the scam was perpetrated.

Now, we obviously had limited knowledge at the time of these black hat methods. But in hindsight – we should have asked for access to the Webmaster Tools for these sites. After invetigation, that would have revealed that they were propped up with PBN links, and would have changed the nature of the deal entirely.

While this is a very specific, and unusual type of fraud, I hope it opens some eyes to just how dificult it is to be 100% secure that you’re getting a good deal online, especially when dealing on Flippa. It pays to do your due diligence, but even if it seems to hit the right notes, be vigilant and be prepared.

That’s our story over, but if you think you may also have been a victim of this scam ring, please get in touch with us via to comments.

Flippa Scam- “My Flippa account got banned” Why?

Flippa is marketplace where you can buy and sell domain names. However, from past few months, they made it difficult for everyone to buy and sell domain names. I am sharing many people personal experience with Flippa. Why it is showing- “Your Flippa account got banned”, “Your Flippa Account has been suspended”. There are many such unanswered questions over the Internet

I was SuperSeller at Flippa with 31 transactions, valued at $3.9K. My six listings were on auction at $1 and one listing already met the reserve and was about to end. When I woke up in morning- I got this message from Flippa- “Your Flippa Account banned”. It was nightmare for me.

The message came from Mr Josh (Editor lead on Flippa), Your account has been banned for shill bidding. Moreover, you made some fake sales at flippa. You belong to Indian Gang, who is using Fiverr to get Bids and also mentioned the names of some accounts.

I was surprised to see such email from Flippa as I did not know any of user accounts with which they linked my name, I donot have my account on Fiverr, My auctions usually sell for less than 10 USD for zero reserve, how I be part of shill bidding on Flippa.

I immediately replied this message to Josh( Editor team head) and other senior authorities, I was so frustrated that I wrote an rough email with many mistakes( it was emotional email actually) –

Hi,

Flippa, this is wrong that you banned my account by stating that my sales are fake, I have seen involved in shill bidding. I do not have any account at Fiverr, you can check my email address- xxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com in database of fiverr. It sold my listings for $1 on flippa. I am open to show you my Paypal account statements of all sales.

It was a technical error, I believe from your side. It takes me more than 8 months to reach at 31 transactions. It is my hard work of last 8 months.

It is my challenge that please prove that I have been involved in shill bidding. The users with which you linked me “XXXXX”, “XXXXX” and “XXXXXX”, I do not know any of them. I am ready to give my gmail access to you, you can check same from my gmail account. I never expect these fake emails from Flippa.

I have payment invoices of each sale. Not made a single fake sale on flippa. I can show you all if you want. I am ready to share my phonebook with you.

I am disappointed against flippa for fake emails.

Who is the supreme authority on flippa to talk with (please do not take it personally). Please provide me with platform where I can prove that whatever you are saying is all shit.

This is not a joke to banned anyone account by saying that your sales are fake, you are threat to our marketplace, you are involved in shill bidding, you are running multiple accounts.

I earlier had word with Sid Galada( senior person of Flippa Team) and asked him to take action against shill accounts. I want you to please prove that I have been involved in shill bidding or bring my case to flippa supreme authorities. You can also send vigilance against my account and verify each bids on all the sales.I have invoices and payment of all sales ranging from $1 to $1.1k

Please prove that I have been involved in shill bidding. I also want to talk with you over the phone. Please connect here- 91XXXXXXXXXX

What info you need from my end so that I can prove my point that I never been involved in this. I am ready to co-operate with you.

One more thing, i am ready to sign agreement or contract with Flippa, If you prove that I know any of them- XXXXX, XXXXX and XXXXX and had word with them in past regarding Bidding then I am ready to give you compensation and In case I prove that I do not know them then Flippa have to give me compensation for wasting my time and money over your upgrades and listings.

What you say?, Agree?

This allegation is personally hurting me. I have been working on Flippa from last 8 months and the first one raising the issue of shill bidding with Sid Galada.

Please investigate further; it might be an error from your end. I am genuine seller

This is email message I sent in frustration to Flippa team because I know I have done nothing wrong.  Later, I came to know that many other accounts were banned by Flippa stating the same reason of shill bidding, your card details are not matching with your name, multiple account operations, Your account is threat for flippa.

1 friend of mine called me 2 days later of this email and said that Flippa Banned his account, Although, He was not using Flippa from Last 6 months( not even Logged in), it was not even have any bidding history.

I was surprised to see, that guy who have not logged in on Flippa from last 6 months and never listed a single auction was banned by Flippa saying that “You have been involved in shill Bidding”.

It is message for everyone who is using Flippa, take care of your account( you never know when Flippa will banned your account by saying that you have been involved in shill bidding). Do not put all your eggs in single basket and donot spend much money on flippa upgrades.

I made a mistake by trusting Flippa. This is article for everyone who is using Flippa.

I hope this article will help everyone and create awareness among the community.

Note– “The article has been accepted as a Guest post from banned Flippa user

How to buy a profitable website on Flippa- Investing Tips

Startups are creating buzz in the market, wherever you go, you will find startups. For example- A street vendor near about home is trying to capture the market with some unique idea. It’s all about reinvent ideas into product. In same way, many sellers are selling ideas on flippa. There must be some do’s which you should follow before buying a website from flippa.

Have you ever thought why sellers are selling their profitable business?  what marketing they did to reach here? Where they invested their money?

A lot of similar questions are there, which everyone wants to know. Many such questions are still unanswered. So, as an investment myself I am trying to answer some of these questions.

Before buying any big business website, consider yourself as an owner of the website which you are about to buy. Think from business perspective, if website is matching points mentioned below then you must buy the business.

Business Domain Name

Before starting any business, you need a business name, it is such that which describe your business. The business name with top level domains will mark the starting of your business. For Example- Paytm.com (It is Pay+ Time), Marketing Discounts (Marketing+ Discounts), Accenture (Accent+ Future) etc.

Your startup name should be such that it describes your business. Many startups did not research much and decide any name. It is very important for any startup because the exact match searches one gets from search engine will add more advantage to your domain name.

Moreover, there are other factors as well like Authority, Age, Scope, Extension, Branding, Business Oriented, Exact searches, competition, ROI etc.

Viable Product with Revenue Model

Once you have good business name then next step is your product, it must be viable product, solving genuine problems of society and must have some revenue model. You need to do research before starting any business.

The research must be to know searches, it gets from search engine, market survey, how your product does in market, the product is for long term or not? Revenue model etc.

These are some of the factors. These days, startups are not getting funding because revenue model is not there. You must have minimum viable product with revenue model.  Once you have good market with viable product having good revenue model then you are in right direction.

Better Marketing and Sales

The major goal is to produce sales which is very difficult step. It is one of the biggest challenge to generate sales. Here comes the marketing and sales team in action. You must find ways for inbound and outbound marketing and must generate sales.

If you are missing any of the above steps, then you cannot expect your startup to be successful. These are the golden steps to make your startup run.

Always check business with these parameters and once you are satisfied with above points then you should invest in business websites on flippa.

I hope above strategies and steps would help you to according invest in your startup accordingly.

How to increase Flippa auction watchers and Bidders?

I can understand that you people are still trying hard to get as many views, watchers and bidders on flippa auction so that it sells for high price. There are lot of things you should take care to showcase your flippa auction. I am sharing some of the points which would help you to gain more watchers and bidders.

It does not matter whether you are buyer or seller. If you are selling your domain name or website on places like GoDaddy, Sedo, Bido, DNForum, Flippa, all you need is more people showing Interest in your listing.

Here is Flippa auction showing watchers, bidders and views.

How to increase watchers and bidder of a flippa listing

How to get more watchers and Bidder at Flippa Listing?

Once your listing is up on Flippa, your first concern must be to increase flippa auction views, watchers and bidders. You must market your domains/ websites in such a way that your auction stands at top in comparison to other auctions.

The beauty of flippa comes with its simple user-friendly design. Domainers love flippa interface more than any other website. It is very easy to buy/sell domains on flippa. The buying/selling part is simple and easy but main problem comes with standing your listing at top with more active bidders.

How to Increase Active Flippa Watchers and Bidders?

Before you going to list your domain name/ website. Make sure domain name must be premium, easy to remember and must have volume searches on Google, TLD extension(.com) and not more than 2 words, relevant with content, Business model, revenue model, positive ROI etc.

Here are some of the steps you need to follow while making Flippa auction description.

If you ever want to sell any domain/ website, then you must know your asking price. To know actual appraisal price, you can also connect with us.

You need to mention all main points on the top of the auction and represents strong points in bold tags. You also need to structure your every auction within a format so that it would be easier for the buyer to go through the description pitch.

You must have Flippa account with lot of watchers like my account has XXX watchers (right now). Whenever I listed a domain, the notification goes to XXX people watching my flippa auction.

Always capitalize your Listing first word. For eg- birthdaydiscount.com should be represented as BirthdayDiscount.com

If possible, make it as zero reserve (it might be risky) but it would fetch you lot of watchers and bidders as it resembles to others that domain/website would going to sell for sure as it already met the reserve.

Always end your auction on exact time and date like Wednesday is suitable time to end your auction and always prefer evening time of your preferred audience. Not to add the Buy It Now(BIN) price in advance in start of auction.Add the BIN (Buy it now) only in last 24-48 hours of the day. Not to add Buy It Now Price on the first day of auction.

If you have money, then you can buy the premium upgrades. Homepage upgrade works well with flippa. I suggest you buy it only during the initial days of auction and at the end days of auction. Latest Homepage upgrade took exactly 3-4 days to disappear from search engine.

Your auction timing Window is for 30 days maximum. Make sure you will get full exposure in terms of Flippa watchers and Bidders.

These are some of the Flippa tips that would help you in getting more bids, views and watchers on your listing. Instead of this, you can to do some outbound marketing to get extra views, watchers and bidders.

The outbound marketing includes Facebook marketing, twitter marketing, email outreach etc. I will reveal complete list of outbound marketing in upcoming article.

I hope that above tips would help Flippa users to increase views, watchers and bidders and help them sell flippa auctions at high prices.
